Larry Jerome Hicks died suddenly on Saturday, February 26 at 69 years old in Fairfax, VA. He is survived by his loving wife of 39 years, Lynne; his two adult children, William Larry (Waleska) and Lauren Jessica Attridge (Thomas); and three grandsons, Isaiah and Elijah of Covington, LA and Donovan of Centreville, VA.
Larry was the youngest of four children born to Hortense and John W. Hicks, Sr. in Bainbridge, GA. He attended grade school through high school as a Hutto Tiger. Larry was a proud Tuskegee University student. While at Tuskegee, Larry was a member of the Marching Crimson Pipers Band and one of the first inductees to the KAPPA KAPPA PSI music fraternity. Larry also pledged KAPPA ALPHA PSI, Gamma Epsilon Chapter, and received recognition as a 50 Year Life Member from the national organization. He was a Distinguished Military Graduate when he was commissioned into the U.S. Army. Larry’s 22-year military career with the Adjutant General Corps included assignments at Ft Stewart, GA, Germany, Ft Sheridan, IL, South Korea and Washington, DC. Retired as a Lieutenant Colonel, Larry served as a JROTC Instructor at Wilson High School in Washington, DC and ended his career of service to country and community with the YMCA National Capitol Region.
Larry is mourned by brother, John W. Hicks, Jr., sister, Margaret Mullen and a host of nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 pm on Saturday, March 5, 2022 at Demaine Funeral Home, Fairfax. Burial will be at Arlington National Cemetery at a later date.
