Jack Kraan Berner, age 95, of Fairfax, Virginia passed away on Wednesday, August 31st, 2022. Jack was born in Ventnor City, New Jersey on January 14th, 1927. He was the only child of John Nelson Berner and Adelaide Theodore Kraan.
Jack lived in New Jersey until he moved to Georgia to attend Georgia Tech University. While there he received a Bachelors of Science degree and met the love of his life Sarah Lillian Kent. They were married on February 9th, 1951 and lived happily until her death in February of 2009.
Jack was employed as a civilian Naval architect by the Navy Department in Washington D.C. .
He lived a full and wonderful life with his family and many friends. Jack loved to travel especially on cruise ships. His adventures took him around the world many times where his charismatic personality brought him new friendships.
Jack's true passion was boating. He and Sarah could be found on their boat "Second Love" every weekend at the Chesapeake Yacht Club in Shady Side Maryland. He became a life member in 1983 and was voted to the position of Commodore in 1990.
He is survived by his two sons: Cliff Berner, his wife Terry Berner, her daughter Jennifer Pate and her sons Gage and Bryce; and his son Kent Berner, his wife Blase Berner their daughter Kendal Colligan, her husband Shawn Colligan and Jack’s two great grandchildren, Colton and Kennedy Colligan, and his granddaughter Jordan Berner.
A celebration of Jack’s life will be held Saturday September 10th from 1-4pm at Kilroy’s, 5250 A Port Royal Rd, Springfield, VA 22151.
