Elizabeth Ann (Reid) Ward, age 84, of Springfield, Virginia, passed away on Saturday, October 7, 2023. She was born on October 27, 1938, in New Jersey to John Leo Reid and Evelyn (Maxwell) Reid. She graduated from Jersey City State College and went on to work as a schoolteacher. She married William Francis Ward, USA, Ret, on August 4, 1962, and together they had two sons. Elizabeth was also a beloved sister to Mary Jane (Reid) Massimino.
Elizabeth was known for her devotion to her church and for working with the rectory at Fort Belvoir, Virginia, and was loved by many for Italian cooking and enjoyment of her grandchildren and her neighbors. She enjoyed traveling with her husband and children and, in her retirement, she particularly enjoyed her trips to Europe and to Ireland to visit the home of her family. She also enjoyed working with charities in the Philippines and she will be remembered for her work in the field of education – teaching mathematics to young people for over four decades, beginning at South Orange Junior High School, in Germany and later in Fairfax County Virginia schools as a Mathematics Department Head at Washington Irving Intermediate in Springfield, Virginia.
Elizabeth is survived by her sons, William J. Ward (Elizabeth), and James L. Ward (Renee), and her grandchildren Marybeth Ward, Glenn Ward, and Sedona Ward.
A memorial service will be held at Nativity Catholic Church, 6400 Nativity Lane Burke, Virginia 22015 at 10:00 am on November 13, 2023, with burial to follow at National Memorial Cemetery at Quantico, Virginia at 18424 Joplin Rd.
