Michelle, Lily and Olivia, I am so sorry for the loss of Daryl.  One of the last conversations I had with Daryl was about how proud he was of his girls, and what remarkable young women you had become.    He thought you all were beautiful inside and out.

For me, Daryl's friendship was like a pair of slippers -- always comforting.  Daryl was the kind of person you could not see for a while and then immediately pick up a conversation as though you spoke the day before.   Our friendship was built around our shared love of the Dodgers.  Every year, on a day like today, we would comment on how happy we were that pitchers and catchers were reporting.  We would speak about our hopes for our team and lament amount close calls -- what might have been (2017 comes to mind).  This conversation would continue throughout the season as Daryl and I would "watch" games "together" -- typically starting with a message from Daryl commenting on a play or pitch and then talking throughout the game.  These conversations got longer as the season ran on.  We were rarely in the same place but we were nonetheless together.   The hole in my heart is deep today knowing that we won't have those conversations anymore, although I have no doubt I will still talk to him while watching a game and believe he will hear me. 

I am grateful to have called Daryl a friend and a role model.

I first met Daryl six years ago when he interviewed me at Sidley.  We had never met at Cadwalader as I was in a different department, but he had me laughing within the first ten seconds and my first thought was that we would get along great.   When I started work he took me out to lunch and made me instantly feel as part of the team.

It was truly a joy working with Daryl ever since.  I can't think of any conversation I ever had with him where I didn't feel better afterward.  He was an incredibly kind, smart and witty person.  I will dearly miss his friendship and will never forget all the good memories. 

  


It is incomprehensible to think of Daryl as gone... he was such a wonderful, fun, clever and reasonable coworker for many years we shared at McDermott. Many of us owe him a huge debt of gratitude for being a great colleague, mentor and a friend on so many meaningful levels.  He will certainly be remebered!  Such a terrible loss for our small community. 

Dear Michelle, I am so shocked and saddened to hear of your loss. He was a wonderful roommate when we shared an office in London, and a great friend throughout my career and especially during my time in DC. I have so many lovely memories of time with your beautiful family. My love to the girls, Nailesh

I am so very sorry for your loss.  I was lucky to work with Daryl as our outside counsel at Morgan Stanley.  He was such a kind, funny, brilliant, thoughtful soul.  No matter how thorny the file, how prickly the participants, Daryl always maintained his grace, compassion and good humour.  I will miss him.
