Obituary of Betty Ann Edwards
Betty Ann Landrum Edwards, age 87, Retired Fairfax County Teacher and Fairfax City Resident since 1956, died and peacefully went to Our Lord on February 21, 2016 after suffering from pneumonia. She was born on Leap Year, February 29, 1928 in Birmingham Alabama. She was preceded in death by her parents, Annie Lou Vassar Landrum, and William Gordon Landrum Sr, in addition to her brother, William Gordon Landrum Jr, a WWII navy pilot, killed in action on June 19, 1944. She is also preceded in death by her husband, the late James David Edwards, interred at the Quantico National Cemetary. They were married on October 21, 1949 and began residing in Fairfax City in 1956, where they raised their family. Mrs. Edwards is survived by two devoted daughters, Marianne Fitzpatrick of Fairfax City, and Patty Edwards of Moscow Russia. She is also survived by 3 grandchildren, Elizabeth Grace Fitzpatrick, Kyle William Fitzpatrick and Brian David Fitzpatrick. Mrs. Edwards was a dedicated teacher at both John C Wood Elementary School, and Oak View Elementary School. She and her late husband were faithful members of the Fairfax Baptist Church, and both sang in the church choir for decades. Singing in a church choir in Birmingham Alabama was how they first met in life. In addition, in Northern Virginia, the couple enjoyed belonging to the Fairfax Antique Arts Association, the Fairfax Music Guild, the “Read and Feed” Book Group, and were avid fans and supporters of the George Mason Basketball Team. Several of her lifelong talents include her genuine love for gardening, art, animals, and calligraphy. She was a very friendly, generous and kind person to a great many people, and will be dearly missed for her radiance, sense of humor, and inspirational contributions to the Fairfax City community, and to the lives of others. Funeral services will be private.
