Rick was the son of Jack and Betty Benway of Glens Falls, NY and was born in Glens Falls on September 29, 1954. Rick graduated from Glens Falls High School and earned his Bachelor’s degree from the University of New Hampshire.
Rick joined the United States Air Force and proudly served his country for 17 years. Following that he was a program manager at BAE in New Hampshire, a business owner in Minnesota and Michigan and finally, a program manager at Wright Patterson Air Force Base in Dayton, OH.
Rick was a kind and generous man, always ready and willing to help someone in need, or mentor the younger generations by teaching math, coaching little league or just being a friend. He loved his pets and he was an amazing role model to his children. Rick loved to go bass fishing and golfing, he was also an accomplished woodworker who loved building things. Rick always played hard, loved well and did his best to the very end, as he generously donated his corneas after his death.
Rick loved and protected his family fiercely, he was a proud husband, father and grandfather, and was respected, admired and loved beyond measure by them, in-turn.
Rick was predeceased by his parents, Jack and Betty Benway, his parents-in-law, Melvin and Gloria Shaulis, brother in-law, Kelly Shaulis, sister in-law, Barbara Benway, and precious grandson, Oliver Wilson.
He leaves behind his beloved wife of 22 years, Kimberly (Shaulis) Benway, son Mark (Marcia) Benway of Williston, ND, son Cameron (Anna) Wilson and granddaughter Charlotte of Dewitt, MI, son Shane Wilson and grandson Myles, of Eaton Rapids, MI, brothers, Jim Benway of Glens Falls, N.Y, and Gary (Nancy) Benway of Queensbury, N.Y, brothers-in-law Brad (Brett Rueckert) Shaulis of Lansing, MI, Dana Shaulis of Owosso, MI and sister in-law Stacy (Scott) Marcum of Laingsburg, MI, also many cousins, nieces and nephews.
A memorial service and interment will be held in Michigan at a later date.
