John Henry Segrest Jr. was ripped prematurely from this Earth on November 6, 2023 when his giant, goofy, but mostly tender heart of gold finally stopped, resulting in an entirely avoidable and stubborn death at the young age of 58.
John loved Godzilla, Pink Floyd, good (and very bad) sci-fi, truly awful paranormal shows, and cute online fluffy animal videos. Dining out was a passion, trying food from around the globe and making many new foodie friends along the way. He loved taking someone to a restaurant they’d never been to, and then introducing them to something new and delicious.
He was preceded in death by his father in 2006 (John Sr.) and his mother (Ann) earlier this year. He is survived by two brothers (Dave and Jim) and a handful of nephews, two dogs, a cat (who only likes him) and was with his wife Jen of 30 years when he passed, who now has lost her entire world.
In honor of John, adopt a shelter pet or four, you will never regret it. Then go find a small locally owned restaurant featuring an exotic cuisine you aren’t familiar with. Try something new, break out of the familiar and discover the fantastic. Taste the world. Like life, it’s delicious.
“How I wish, how I wish you were here.
We’re just two lost souls swimming in a fish bowl
Year after year, running over the same old ground
What have we found? The same old fears.
Wish you were here”
Pink Floyd
