James Patrick Maloney

Heaven is filled with new laughter, quick wit, a bit of snark and a lot of love, hugs, and kisses with the passing of James Patrick Maloney. Formerly of Fairborn, OH, James passed away on November 11, 2023 peacefully in his home at the age of 81. The son of the late David W. and Emily D. (Schulz) Maloney, he was born in Alton, IL on January 22, 1942.

He was known to friends and family as “Pat”, “J.P.”, “Jim” or “Jim-Pat” and of course he was known as Husband, Dad, Daddy, Daddy-O, Grandpa-Pa, and Pa. But no matter the relationship, many would simply call him a dear, loyal, and trusted friend. He attended Springfield High School in Springfield, IL and then immediately entered into military service with the United States Air Force in 1960 at the age of 18. He served as an aircraft mechanic until his duty tour ended in 1964.

He met his future wife, Donna Gail Couch, in the winter of 1961 at the Hasty-Tasty in Fairborn, OH. They were married by Father Webber at the Wright-Patterson Air Force Base Chapel on July 7, 1962.

Following his duty in the Air Force, James served for two years in the reserves and then worked as a Fuller Brush salesman and at McCall’s publishing. He worked at Dayton Tire and Rubber for six years and then started his career as a Real Estate Agent, Broker, and Real Estate Agency owner. He retired after more than 21 years of civil service from Wright-Patterson Air Force Base.

James was an avid boater and loved to water ski and fish. He also had a love for motorcycles and any adrenaline producing activity. He was a jack of all trades and a certifiable “Mr. Fix-it”. He also loved to share his knowledge and skills, took great pride in personal accomplishments and a job well done, and he was always up for road trips and sing-alongs. And gave the BEST hugs!

He had a strong spirit of service and reverence for those who serve(d). He was active in many organizations such as the VFW, American Legion, and Moose, and volunteered much of his time in support of them. He was also involved and had a very strong passion for supporting Gold Star Families.

In addition to his only wife Donna Gail Maloney, he is survived by Four Daughters: Shannon Kathleen Maloney, of Huber Heights, OH, Cassandra Sue (Maloney) Frazier of Albany, KY, Meghann Rae (Maloney) (Mike) Perkins of Dayton, OH, Meredith Ann (Ann) Keep-Maloney of Huber Heights, OH.

Five Grandchildren: Elizabeth Caitlin (Austin) Proll, Shawn William Rawlins, Memory Gail Faye Clevenger, Marissa Renee Maloney, Abigail Rae Keep-Maloney. Five Great-Grandchildren: Lillyanne, Skylar, Zhyon, Avi’onna, and Ari’onna. Six Siblings: David W. Maloney (Pauline), John F. Maloney (Donna), Steven T. Maloney (Diane), Sharon A. Brown-Adams (Charles), Mary Beth Maloney, Marti M. Ellwood (Kevin). And numerous nieces and nephews.He was preceded in death by his younger brother Michael K. Maloney in February, 1971 and his oldest daughter, Madonna Renee (Maloney) Carpenter in May, 2002.

The family will receive friends and relatives on Sunday, November 19, 2023, from 2-4PM at Burcham Tobias Funeral Home 119 E Main St, Fairborn, OH 45324, with interment service on Monday, November 20, 2023, 10AM, at Byron Cemetery 3256 Trebein Rd, Fairborn, OH 45324.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Americas Gold Star Families or Folds of Honor.
