Barbara van de Sandt (Conyers), passed away peacefully early in the morning October 31st 2015. Barbara had suffered for many years with Alzheimer’s and resided at a nursing home in Zionsville IN. Born Barbara Colleen Conyers in Monroe Indiana, Barb graduated from Warsaw Indiana High School in 1947. In high school she developed her love for music playing the trumpet in the High School Band. Barbara became an avid musician, playing the organ and directing choirs at Bethlehem Lutheran Church (Fairborn, OH), teaching piano lessons, and playing the trumpet in various community bands. Barbara retired from civil service in 1987 after working as an assistant in the surgical clinics at Fort Huachuca AZ, and Wright Patterson Airforce Base in Fairborn Ohio. She started her career as an assistant to the Office of Special Investigation at Wright Patterson in 1949. She met her husband of 56 years, Glenn van de Sandt, at Concordia Lutheran Church in Dayton Ohio and they were married on July 27th, 1957. Barbara is survived by her 5 children, Penny Johnson - Washington Courthouse, OH, Linda Cristman - Rescue, CA, William van de Sandt (Ann) - Zionsville, IN, Karen Stacey (Richard) - Smyrna, TN, Robert van de Sandt – Sierra Vista, AZ. Step Children Sherian Traywick (James) Fortson, GA, Ronald van de Sandt – Xenia, OH, Michael van de Sandt – Meade, CO. 13 Grandchildren, and 15 Great Grand Children. Barbara was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend. She will be missed by all who loved her. Friends may call on Saturday November 7th 2015 – 10:00a.m. - 11:00p.m. at Burcham Jennings Funeral Home, 119 E. Main St. Fairborn, Ohio, 45324. There will be a service at the funeral home at 11 a.m. followed by internment at Byron Cemetery.
