William “Bill” Davis Smail, age 65, passed away peacefully on May 28th, 2024. William was born to Davis and Doris Smail on December 24th, 1958, in Tacoma, WA. ¬Bill graduated from McClatchy High School and attended both Sacramento City College and Sacramento State University. He spent 6 years in the United States Marine Corp serving our country proudly. After his service, he spent time as a pharmacy technician, cook at Sacramento County Jail, and handyman. He also worked with the Vietnam Veterans of California, the Salvation Army, and the Sacramento Veterans Resource Center.
Bill was a caring person with a very big heart. He spent the rest of his life trying to give back to the world around him. Although he had a lot of obstacles in life, he never let them take away from who he was and always overcame them. He survived two different battles with cancer. He experienced both homelessness and financial struggles. However, Bill deeply cared for all his family, especially his children and grandchildren.
Bill is preceded in death by his parents Davis and Doris Smail, sister Sheila Basped, brother Michael Smail, and sister Louretta Perez. He is survived by his daughter Brandy Lewis, his son Jesse Martinez, his sister Esther Murphy, his brother Phillip Smail, and grandchildren. William was memorable to anyone he met and will forever be missed.
William will be laid to rest at the Court of Honor within Mt. Vernon Memorial Park on August 14th, 2024 at 10am.
