In loving memory, Romona Elizabeth Andersen, July 12, 1928 - February 21, 2016. Romona is survived by husband: James Dale Andersen; children: Lynette Andersen (Mark Tillack), Sherita (Kevin) Normington, Richard (Pamela) Andersen, Karen (Wayne) Lattin, and Duane Andersen; siblings: Raymond Ziegler, Julian Ziegler and LaVonne Ziegler; grandchildren: Brandon (fiancé Khayla) Andersen, Patrick (Michelle) Andersen and Ethan Lattin. Romona is preceded in death by her parents, Peter and Mary Ann Ziegler, eight siblings, daughter, Katherine, and her grandson, Matthew Andersen. Ramona was born in Topeka, Kansas. She married Jim on May 29, 1954 in Topeka, KS. In 1972, just before Jim’s retirement from the U.S. Air Force, they settled in Carmichael, CA, where they finished raising their five children. Romona was a homemaker and loved gardening and raising birds and small animals on their suburban “farm.” She was active in the PTA throughout her children’s grade school years and provided childcare for her grandsons when they were young. After raising her children, she spent her free time gathering and tending to the less fortunate, both human and animal. She volunteered as an English as a Second Language teacher to Hmong immigrants, volunteered with Loaves and Fishes and often had a sick animal in her care that she was nursing back to health. Romona was a devout member of St. John’s Catholic Church in Carmichael, a former president of the Carmichael Chapter of The Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary and a life-time member of the Air Force Sergeants Association Auxiliary. She suffered from Alzheimer’s for the past 10 years. We would like to thank Tina and Ross Borz of Sunrise Garden Care for 10 years of devoted care to our mother. She was surrounded by family as she peacefully passed from pneumonia at Mercy San Juan Hospital. Services will be held on Monday, March 21, 2016, at noon at Mount Vernon Mortuary, 8201 Greenback Lane, Fair Oaks, CA 95628 followed by burial at Sacramento Valley National Cemetery in Dixon. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made in her name to The Alzheimers Association, Alzheimer’s Association: 1455 Response Road, Suite 190, Sacramento, CA 95815, Phone: 916.930.9080.
