Barbara Weiss Pennington

A native Californian born in San Francisco to Kenneth Chester Weiss &

Lena Marie Deichman on November 25th, 1929 passed away peacefully at

the age of 95 on December 8th, 2024 in Carmichael, CA.

She is survived by her children Robert Charles Pennington (Pam) of

Foresthill, CA., Alicia Pennington Harrison (Eric) of Mansfield, OH., & John

William Pennington of Carmichael, CA.

Grandchildren - Jennifer Pennington Schuelke of Church Hill, TN (Matt),

Kenneth Charles Pennington (Martha) of Foresthill, CA. & Nicholas Pierce

Daniels of Antelope, CA.

Great Grandchildren - Vandon, Kasch, Cooper, & Lena of Church Hill, TN.,

Kaiden, Caleb and Halie Pennington of Foresthill, CA. & Penelope Pierce

Daniels of Antelope, CA.

Proceeded in death by her husband Dr. Charles Edward Pennington, M.D.,

her sister Katherine Ann Weiss & parents Ken and Marie Weiss.

In 1939 the Weiss’ moved from S.F. back to Denver, CO. Starting in 1942

Barbara was raised at 1427 Glencoe Street in East Denver and attended

the local schools and graduated from East High School 1947. Barbara

graduated from Colorado Women’s College, Denver as a Liberal Arts

major. She became a longtime community volunteer and served in officer

positions working with many diverse agencies, commissions and

programs. 13 years in Colorado Springs and the majority of her life in

Sacramento area. This included serving as President eventually as a

member of League of Women voters, Fire District steering committee,

Community Service Planning Council (vice president), Child Abuse Council

(fund raising) Sacramento Public Library Foundation board, Crocker Art

Museum (16 yrs. docent, Council President, Kingsley Art Club-registrar

exhibits), play cards in Sacramento doctor’s wives Bridge group and with

friends in Colorado Springs, treasurer Sacramento German Genealogy

Society, Sacramento Traditional Jazz Society Jubilee Volunteers,

Membership co-chair with husband Pennington Research Association.

Barbara got married on June 8th, 1952 at the Presbyterian Church in

Denver, CO. Lived in San Francisco (1953-’54), Panama (1954-56),

Colorado Springs, CO (1956-’69), Carmichael (1969-2024). As a wife and

mother Barbara was passionate in raising her family. Traveled extensively

with her husband in Europe, all of the lower 48 states entering most

Capitol buildings and courthouses, saw most of the National Parks with

her family, drove and flew back n forth to Denver area visiting relatives and

family while touring and sightseeing along the way. She also loved

gardening, flowers, needlepoint, art, reading, people, neighbors, was an

optimist. Loved by many will be greatly missed and remembered by

everyone she touched and communicated with.
