The son of Italian immigrants, Tony was born February 15, 1931 in San Francisco. Tony was attending college studying to become a neurosurgeon but drafted into the Army during the Korean War. He served his country with distinction receiving the Purple Heart and two Bronze Stars.
On July 3, 1955, Tony married the apple of his eye, Joyce Kranzler. His adoration and devotion to Joyce was apparent to all who met him.
Tony completed his education at the University of San Francisco, where he was one of the first three individuals to receive a PhD in Pharmacology. He later served 30 years as the Director of Pharmacy for Mercy Hospitals. With his astute sense of humor, Tony always said he was going to work to “save lives and stamp out diseases.” A man of extreme integrity and an impeccable work ethic, Tony was respected by all.
Tony is survived by his wife, three children (Rebecca “Becky” Prescot, Timothy “Tim” Longo, and David Longo), and four grandchildren. He will be greatly missed by his family and the community.
Tony will be laid to rest with military honors at Mount Vernon Memorial Park on Tuesday, November 20, 2018. In lieu of flowers, please donate to St. Jude Children’s Hospital.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.MountVernonMemorial.com for the Longo family.
