Mr. George Dixon Jr.

George Dixon Jr. was born on February 26, 1926 to the late George Dixon Sr. and Irene Ware Dixon

in Birmingham, Alabama. He was one of five children that were born to this union. At an early age, he accepted Christ and attended church with his family.

George and his family relocated to Chicago early in his life. He received his formal education in the Chicago Public School System and graduated from

Du Sable High School, in 1944. After high school, he enlisted in the United States Navy. He was honorably discharged on August 12, 1946.

As a young man, George met his soul mate and the love of his life, Ms. Ernestine Bryant. They were united in Holy Matrimony on May 3, 1959. Together they nurtured two beautiful daughters, Denise and Karen.

George was employed with the United States Post Office as a postal clerk. After 35 years of dedicated service, he retired on October 30, 1986.

The love of art was more than a passion for George. He was known for just quietly drawing and listening to many genres of music in the comforts of his basement. Let’s not forget how fond he was of his favorite teams, the “Chicago Bulls” and the “Chicago Bears”. But most of all, George was always excited to talk about his two grandsons, Dion and Darien. They truly made him proud.

George fought a good fight but didn’t reach his goal of turning 90 in a few months.

On November 16, 2015, George received his Heavenly

wings and was called home.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 53 years, Ernestine; daughter, Karen; siblings, Arthur, Herman, Margaret and Henrietta and niece Vicky.

His life and legacy will live on in the heart of his devoted daughter, Denise (Dion) Boyd; grandsons, Dion and Darien Boyd; nephew, William (Linda) Bonaparte Jr.; brothers-in-law, Earl (Florence) and Preston (Sandra) Bryant; sister-in-law, Mildred Bryant and many nieces, nephews and treasured friends.

In lieu of flowers the family encourages memorial donations to the American Cancer Society, cancer.org or on the behalf of his grandson's donations can be made to the Building Leaders on Campus (BLOC) organization, a mentorship program on the Claremont Colleges Campus www.blocorganization.org
