Francis was born to Bernard and Viola Schelm on February 2, 1940, in Stuart Nebraska. After high school he enlisted in the U.S. Army on December 18, 1958 where he served most of his time overseas. When he got out of the service he moved to Yakima, WA where he was given his nickname Fuzzy while he worked at the lumber mill. He later moved to Friday Harbor where he spent the last of his working career as a general contractor.
He loved his work with the American Legion where he was a past Commander. He also loved cooking, crabbing, octopus hunting, digging clams, and country music. Fuzzy was very energetic, hardworking and had a witty sense of humor.
He had two children Bryan Schelm and Cristy Loveless, and 7 stepchildren: Rockie Rish, Sheri Eakins,
Shery Wold, Geraldine Wold, Walter Wold, Gerald (Bud) Wold, and ToniJo (TJ) Surina.
He was preceded in death by his parents as well as wives; Sally Watkins and Sharon Schelm, and stepson Gerald (Bud) J. Wold.
