Obituary of William Martin Pigman
William “Bill” Martin Pigman, Sr., 85, of Evansville, passed away Tuesday, March 11, 2014, at his home. He was born October 8, 1928, in Evansville, to the late Robert L. and Louise (Duncan) Pigman. He was preceded in death by his wife, Marian Pigman; son, Richard Pigman; brothers, Robert, Ralph and Charles Pigman; and sister, Martha Morneault. Bill is survived by his sons, Bob (Debbie) Pigman and Bill (Mary) Pigman; daughters, Kathy (Dan) Abshier, Beth (Mike) Barchet and Carol Pigman (Rob Hendry); grandchildren, Jessica (David) Hinton, Jared, Jennifer, Jeff (Amy), Tim, Michael (Patty) and Brian Pigman, Aaron, Andy, Adam and Ben Barchet, Mary Beth (Getty) Murray and Matt (Wendy), Chris (Leslie), Nick and Sara Abshier; and 15 great-grandchildren. He retired from Mead Johnson after 32 years of service. He was past Commander of VFW Post 1114 and was named All American Team Post Commander in 1982. Also, he was a member of Eagles, River Bend, Twin Towers, AMVets and Hilltop Grove. He attended St. James United Methodist Church. He and Marian volunteered for the Evansville Public Library delivering books. They also made deliveries for St. Vincent DePaul Food Bank for over 20 years. He coached grade school basketball at Sacred Heart and managed the Sacred Heart men’s slow-pitch softball team. Friends may visit Thursday from 2:00 to 8:00 PM, with a memorial service at 6:30 PM, officiated by Rev. Gene Backes, at Alexander West Chapel, 2100 West Illinois Street, and Friday from 9:00 AM until service time Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 2701 West Franklin Street. Services will be 10:00 AM Friday, March 14, 2014, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, officiated by Fr. David Nunning, with burial in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery. The Vanderburgh County Retired Veterans Memorial Club will conduct Military Rites at the cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Vincent De Paul Food Bank, St. James United Methodist Church – West or Sacred Heart Catholic Church.
