Ronald "Ron" J. Hawkins, 70, of Mt. Vernon, passed away Friday, August 2, 2013 at VNA Charlier Hospice Center in Evansville. He was born January 25, 1943, in Evansville.
He served in the United States Air Force and retired from Bristol Myers after 33 years. He was baptized and raised Catholic. Ron was an avid car enthusiast and a member of Evansville Street Rod. He loved NASCAR racing, world tour poker and anything to do with sports and history. He enjoyed antique collectibles and woodworking.
Ron was preceded in death by his brother, Richard; sister, Beverly; and nephew, Richard “Butch” Hawkins.
He is survived by his wife, Paulette Hawkins; sons, Ron (Julie) Hawkins and Joe (Dino) Hawkins; grandchildren, Brandon Hawkins and Tori Hawkins; and several nieces and nephews.
Services will be 5:45 PM Wednesday, August 7, 2013, at Alexander West Chapel, officiated by Fr. Ted Tempel. Friends may visit Wednesday from 3:30 to 5:30 PM at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be given to VNA Charlier Hospice Center, 610 East Walnut Street, Evansville, IN 47713.
