Obituary of Robert Wayne Newcomb
Robert “Bob” Wayne Newcomb, 64, was born in Evansville, IN on February 15, 1958 to William Ivan Newcomb and Margaret Lillian Newcomb. He died on August 24, 2022 at Majestic Care and was cared for by Heritage Hospice. He was a graduate of USI with a teaching degree and taught one year in Mortons Gap, Kentucky before substitute teaching for the EVSC for many years. For the last 15+ years he drove a METS mobility bus and entertained his passengers with songs, mostly gospel ones. He had a vocal talent and had sang over the years with the “Men of Color” and the Philharmonic chorus. He was very athletic having played sports at Reitz High School and was a pitcher at USI. He later became the reserve baseball coach at Reitz and also coached in the West Pony League. He was a faithful jogger running daily, if at all possible, since he was a teenager plus he ran in many distance races including several marathons. He also was a bike rider who rode with a group of guys usually early on Sunday morning. He lived his whole life, except the year teaching in Kentucky, at 1408 Ewing Avenue and was a porch sitter where he waved at passersby talking to anyone who would stop. He was truly just an all-around good guy. He was preceded in death by his parents and a beloved brother, William “Billy” Newcomb, by two BILs, Charles Angle, and Harold Watson, who lovingly called him brother. He is survived by his sister, Carolyn Newcomb Angle, three nephews, David, Craig, and Keith, and two great nephews Kole and Drew plus extended family members. His memorial service is planned for Saturday, September 10, 2022 from 10:00 a.m.to 1:00 p.m. with visitation until service time 12:00 pm at his Church, Forest Hills Wesleyan located at 2801 Claremont Avenue, Evansville, IN.
