Robert “Bob” Edward Keerl, age 90, peacefully passed away on Tuesday, October 29, 2024, following a courageous, months-long hospital stay in Evansville, IN. Known for his dignity and resilience, Bob faced his final days with strength and grace.
Born on March 2, 1934, in Evansville, IN, Bob attended Bosse High School, graduating in 1953. He proudly served in the Army at Fort Lewis, Washington, where he built friendships and values that would last a lifetime. On June 10, 1961, he married his soulmate, Lois Archer Keerl, with whom he shared 55 joyous years of marriage. Together, they raised a family grounded in love, faith, and unshakeable support.
Bob’s life was filled with simple joys that he held close to his heart. He proudly attended his grandchildren’s endless ball games, cheering them on with boundless pride. Bob was also an Elvis enthusiast, finding joy in the music that connected him to moments of happiness and nostalgia throughout his life.
Throughout his life, Bob was known for his kindness, loyalty, and commitment to family. He lovingly tended to his mother’s lawn, ensuring her yard was as cared for as she was. For 33 years, Bob dedicated himself to Mead Johnson/Bristol Myers Squibb, where he retired in 1993, leaving behind a legacy of hard work and integrity.
Bob was the epitome of a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He lived his life selflessly, caring deeply for everyone around him. His unwavering generosity and compassion will forever be cherished and carried forward by his family. His absence leaves an irreplaceable void, and to say he will be missed is an understatement.
Bob is survived by his children, Linda Keerl Lord and Rick (Michelle) Keerl; his beloved grandchildren, Dalton & Colton Lord, Dylan Keerl, Derek Keerl, Kayla (Andy) Harris, and Haley (Max) Bridges; and his great-grandchildren, Noah Bridges and Henley Harris. He is also survived by his sister, Mary Anna Harrington; nieces Debbie Harrington and Susan Keerl; nephews Mark Harrington, David Keerl, Kris Keerl, and Donnie Keerl; sisters-in-law Beverly Keerl and Barbara Keerl; and his best friend, Pat Hayes.
He is reunited in peace with his beloved wife, Lois Arlene Archer Keerl; their children, Kathy, Darin, Robbie, and Kevin Keerl; his parents, Martha Beck Keerl and Alfred Keerl; his brothers, Donald and Sonny Keerl; and brother-in-law, George Harrington.
Bob was a lifelong member of Zion Evangelical United Church of Christ, where his faith remained steadfast and central throughout his life.
Family and friends are invited to gather on Saturday, November 9, 2024 from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at Alexander Funeral Home East Chapel.
