Obituary of Richard D. Johnson, Sr.
Richard D. Johnson, Sr., 79, of Evansville, went to be with God on Wednesday, December 26, 2012, while at home surrounded by family. He was born on October 5, 1933, in Colome, SD, to the late Axel and Alice (Nelson) Johnson. Richard enjoyed watching his children and grandchildren participate in sports; fishing and hunting with his sons and grandsons; Pheasant hunting with his brothers later in life; watching the Green Bay Packers win; traveling; attending Johnson/Nelson family reunions; watching Jimmie Johnson drive around the race track; and living life to its fullest. Richard was a car salesman for many, many years at Lindsay-Lincoln Mercury, Patriot Motors and Wright Motors. He was preceded in death by his son Richard “Murph” Johnson, Jr.; brothers, Harold and Ray Johnson; and sisters, Idalee Kaiser and Anna Kavan. Richard is survived by his wife, Charlotte “Nikki”; children, Laura (Khalil) Dughaish of Evansville, Debbie (Tom) Austin of Indianapolis, Don (Phyllis) Johnson of Lebanon, TN, Carole (Tom) Byrum of Spencer, Judi (Tom) Smith of West Chester, OH, Ken Guthrie of Evansville, Brenda (Steve) June-Sellers of Evansville and Debbie (Tom) Weddle of Ft. Branch; brother, Walt Johnson of Gregory, SD; 20 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and mother of his children, Deloris (Cahoy) Skogen. The family would like to thank Deaconess Hospice for their loving care. Services will be 5:00 PM Friday, December 28, 2012, at Alexander East Chapel, officiated by Fr. Attila Froelich. Friends may visit Friday from 2:00 PM until service time at the funeral home.
