Michael A. “Big Cat” Elder, 64, of Evansville, IN, passed away on Saturday, September 14, 2024. Mike was born on January 25, 1960, to Herbert A. Elder and Mildred Cristine (Abel) Simpson in Evansville, IN.
Mike spent over 30 years as a truck driver with O'Neal Steel. Whether driving his truck or out with friends, he made lasting friendships everywhere he went. He was an animal lover, especially devoted to his dog Tripper. Mike loved the outdoors, enjoying everything from hunting and fishing to boating and spot shooting. He had a talent for whipping up a great meal, enjoyed music, and even hit the karaoke stage from time to time. His love of stories, jokes, and laughter was contagious, brightening the lives of everyone he met.
He was preceded in death by his father, Herbert A. Elder; his mother, Mildred Simpson; his sister, Tonya White; and his beloved paternal grandmother, Gladys “Maw” Stinson. His step-mother, Vivian Elder, passed away the day after him.
Mike is survived by his daughter, Courtney Elder; his grandchildren, Aiden, Audrey, and Christine; his sister, Pam Scott; his brothers, David, Chris, and Justin Elder; his step-mother, Freda Elder; and his lifelong friend, Ron Hudson. He will also be missed by aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Friday, September 20, 2024 at Alexander West Chapel, 2100 W. Illinois Street, Evansville, IN, with Pastor Kevin Waters officiating.
Friends may visit from 4:00 p.m. until service time, with a private family viewing earlier from 3:00 - 4:00 p.m..
