OBITUARY
Lori Ann Yeager
29 May, 1963 – 11 June, 2021
IN THE CARE OF
Alexander Funeral Home-West Chapel
Lori Ann Yeager was born to Gene and Elizabeth “Betty” Newcom at St. Mary’s Hospital in Evansville, IN on May 29, 1963, and was a resident of Evansville her entire life. She passed away at the age 58 on the morning of June 11, 2021 at Deaconess Midtown Hospital after a long fought battle against ovarian cancer.
Lori attended Vogel Elementary School and graduated with honors from North High School in 1981, having received the EVSC Vocational Certificate for Outstanding Accomplishment in Accounting. She later graduated from the University of Evansville in 1985 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Business and was a member of The International Fraternity Delta Sigma Pi.
As a college student, Lori worked as a page and front desk attendant at Meadow Park Library until 1986. It was at Meadow Park Library on August 11, 1982 that she first met Rusty Yeager, who she married eight years later on August 11, 1990. Following college, she was employed at AAA of Southern Indiana providing travel and accounting services. The remaining 16 years of her professional career were as an accountant at the Lochmueller Group in Evansville, IN until the fall of 2020.
Lori’s interests were many, but she was particularly fond of travel to natural and historic sites, amateur photography, flower and vegetable gardening, and cooking. She was very passionate to her pet cats that she mothered from her childhood until her final days.
Lori was preceded in death by her grandparents William and Pauline Henson, Wilburn and Frances Newcom, her brother Jerry Wade Newcom in 1959, her sister Cathy Newcom Kennison of Manchester, Maine in 2014, and her mother Elizabeth “Betty” Newcom in 2021. Like her sister Cathy (breast and melanoma cancer), Lori put up a valiant fight against ovarian cancer and a resulting stroke in November 2020. Despite the dwindling odds of survival she continued to be cheerful throughout her battle and strived to continue working as long as she was able and insisted on helping with normal household chores despite her growing physical limitations. Both Cathy and Lori exemplified courage beyond description as they endured repeated treatments and the progressive debilitating effects of their respective illnesses.
She is survived by her husband, Rusty Yeager; her father, Gene Newcom; brother-in-law, Peter Kennison (Manchester, Maine); mother-in-law, Rosalie Yeager; sister-in-law Pamela (Dennis) Schuck; niece, Jeannie (Ryan) Fruth; and nephew, Aaron (fiancé, Megan Higgs) Schuck.
The Yeager and Newcom families would like to extend their deepest appreciation to the doctors, nurses, technicians, therapists, and administrative staff at Deaconess Midtown Hospital, Deaconess Gateway Hospital, The Women’s Cancer Center, Encompass Health Deaconess Rehabilitation Hospital, Progressive Health at Deaconess, and Riverside Orthotics and Prosthetics. “No One Fights Alone!”
Visitation will be from 3:00 pm to 7:00 pm on Wednesday June 16, 2021 at Alexander West Chapel and again on Thursday, June 17, 2021 from 9:00 am to 10:00 am. Funeral service will follow the visitation at 10:00 am on Thursday.
Charitable donations in Lori’s honor can be made to the American Cancer Society or the Vanderburgh County Humane Society.
