Leona Faye (Herrin) Nelson, 83, of Evansville, passed away Thursday, March 9, 2017, at The Village at Holiday Health Care. She was born December 19, 1933, in Crittenden County, KY to the late Calvin and Della (Underdown) Herrin.
She enjoyed reading, playing cards, pets, ice cream and preparing family dinners. She had attended Ft. Branch General Baptist Church and was currently attending Mt. Pleasant Church of God. She was in the Pink Lady Auxiliary at Deaconess Hospital for 36 years.
Faye was preceded in death by her husband, Virgil Harold Nelson, parents; brother, Charles Herrin and sister, Frances McConnell.
She is survived by daughters, Yonetta (Michael) Sollman of Ft. Branch, Tawana (Jim) Poston, and Yalanda (Mike) Kappert of Evansville; grandchildren, Brandy Hughes, Candice Poston-Smith, Benjamin Sollman, Jessica Nellis, and Taylor Kappert; great-grandchildren, Caleb Hughes, Laura Hughes, Brandy Ann Sollman, Elliot Smith and Lydia Smith.
Funeral Services will be 1:00PM, Monday, March 13, 2017, at Alexander North Chapel, 4200 Stringtown Road, officiated by Rev. Bruce Applegate, with burial in Oak Hill Cemetery. Friends may visit 1:00PM to 6:00PM, Sunday, March 12, 2017 and Monday from 12:00PM to service time at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to Mt. Pleasant Church of God or Vanderburgh Humane Society.
