John Walter Jones, 87, of Evansville, IN, passed away Wednesday, March 4, 2020, at Pine Haven Rehabilitation Center. He was born November 7, 1932, in Springfield, Illinois, to the late Walter and Catherine Jones.
John was an Army veteran, serving in the Korean War. He retired from Wagner Electric Corporation after 30 years. He was a graduate of Southern Illinois University. He was a member of North Park Baptist Church, where he taught Sunday School and sang in the choir. He loved to work in the yard and was a St. Louis Cardinal’s fan.
John is survived by his wife of 61 years, Sandra M. Jones; daughters, Katherine Nunn; Stephanie Shelhorn (Jerry); and Deborah Le; son, Timothy Jones; grandchildren, Sarah, Joshua, Josephine, Matthew, Emily, Nathaniel, Amber, Heather, Mark, and Eric; great grandchild, Nora; sisters, Catherine Kornfeld, Rosebud Jones, and Myrtle Lu Grover; brother, Daniel Jones (Gerry); and sister-in-law, Mary Laboube (Tom).
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, March 9, 2020, at Alexander North Chapel, officiated by Rev. Art Christmas, with burial in Alexander Memorial Park. Friends may visit Sunday from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
