He retired from Lewis Bakery after over twenty years. Jim served in the U.S. Navy for 8 years and was in Operation Deep Freeze, in the Antarctic, aboard the USS Arben-56 (1956-1957). He enjoyed IU football and basketball, UE basketball, and the Green Bay Packers. Jim loved to cook. He was an active member of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church and ran their Fall Festival booth for seventeen years where he cooked all the barbeque. He devoted a lot of his time to the church youth.
Jim is survived by his wife of 65 years, Shirley May (Devine) Hager; daughters, Jennifer Neiswinger (Rick), Jeanine Kissel, and Jamie Tinsley (Tracy); grandchildren, Brad Neiswinger (Chelsea), Matthew Neiswinger (Becca), Christopher Neiswinger, Shelby Hammers (Aaron), Austin Kissel, Melissa Clark (Sam), and Michael Tinsley (Christina); nine great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, January 27, 2022 at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, 301 SE First Street, with Rev. Holly Rankin Zaher officiating. Entombment will follow at Alexander Memorial Park. Friend may visit on Wednesday, January 26, 2022 from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the church.
