Frederick (Fred) Nickolas Barkmann, 94, of Evansville passed away September 15, 2024, at Ascension St. Vincent Hospital. He was born November 8, 1929, to the late Emil and Hulda Barkmann.
Fred served in the Air Force from 1948 to 1952. He was stationed in Cheyenne, Wyoming and served in the medical squadron. He worked for General Foods as a quality control supervisor for 23 years. He retired in December 1984.
He was a lifetime member of St. Lucas United Church of Christ. He loved his church family. They were an important part of his life. He dedicated his time in service to his church. He served as a volunteer for many years with the Red Cross, the Protestant Home and SWIRCA.
Fred was preceded in death by his wife Bettye Barkmann; brother, Karl Barkmann, and half-sister Adele Meeks.
He is survived by his children, Becky (Chris) Watts and Gail (Darwin) Lashley; grandchildren, Gary (Ashley) Lashley, Amanda (Matthew) Pearson, Tracy (Steven) Tolliver, Mark (Madison) Watts; great grandchildren, Dakota Berry, Dalton Berry, Knox Lashley, Ethan Moyer, Hailey Moyer, Drew Tolliver and Reid Tolliver.
Visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. Thursday, September 19, 2024 at St. Lucas United Church of Christ 33 W. Virginia St. A funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. following visitation at church with Pastor Ange Humphrey officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Lucas United Church of Christ, 33 W Virginia St. Evansville IN 47710.
