Elizabeth "Betty" Fischer, age 95, was born on Friday, April 12, 1929 and passed from this life to her new Heavenly home on Friday, December 6, 2024 with family and a dear friend from Premier by her side.
She lived in Haubstadt, then Darmstadt, then at Premier Healthcare of New Harmony, always spreading her love, friendship, and peace to all. Betty was born as Elizabeth Theresa Mayer, in Haubstadt, IN to parents Dennis and Mary Mayer. She graduated from St. Peter & Paul Grade School and attended Haubstadt High School. She married Raymond J. Fischer in October of 1949 (whom she has missed terribly since 2007). She worked at Shanes Sewing Factory, Carhartt, Fountain Factory, Darmstadt Inn, Scotty's Lawn & Garden Center and then finally retired at age 85 from Scotty's Equipment.
Betty is survived by one daughter, Susan Helmer, and son-in-law Jim Helmer, a grandson Nicholas Helmer (Amanda), and granddaughter Roxie (Andy) Schlageter. She was also blessed with great-grandchildren, Suzanne, Brooklyn & Leann and bonus of Casey, Spencer, & KaLeigh. Also, two in-law-sisters: Helen Klueg and Virginia Seybold; and many cherished nieces and nephews.
Betty is preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 57 years - Raymond J. Fischer; siblings: Vera Roedel, Leroy Mayer, John Mayer, Henry Mayer, Catherine Hall, Oscar Mayer, Matilda Case, Anthony Mayer, & Mary Voelker. She was also preceded in death by many, many dear friends, relatives, and in-laws, who she has missed so very much.
Betty was a member of St. Bernadette Auxiliary in Haubstadt, VFW Auxiliary post #6576 & then #1114, Armstrong Recreation Center, Darmstadt Retirees, and a member of St. Joseph Church (Vand Co), and she attended Cursillo #78.
Our family would like to thank Premier Healthcare for loving her and taking such good care of her in her final years. Also thank you to St. Croix Hospice for their compassionate care during her final weeks and her passing.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, December 13, 2024 at St. Joseph Catholic Church Vanderburgh County, officiated by Fr. Gene Schroeder, with entombment to follow in Alexander Memorial Park. Friends and family may visit from 3:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. Thursday, December 12, 2024 at Alexander North Chapel and from 9:00 a.m. until service time on Friday at church.
