Sister Dorothy Jean Richardson was born on April 28, 1946 in Evansville. Dorothy was the daughter of the late Ernest and Lucille Johnson, and Morris Sholar. She departed this life for a better life on Tuesday, November 22, 2022 at 4:20 a.m. surrounded by her family.
Sister Richardson married the late Earnest Richardson on November 26, 1967 until God called him home on February 17, 2008. To this union they were blessed with four children; Eric, who preceded her in death, two daughters, Erika Lowery (Chris) of Manhattan, KS and Jennifer Richardson of Nicholasville, KY, and one son, Eric Dewayne Richardson (Valerie) of Charlotte, NC.
Sister Richardson accepted the Lord as her personal savior at an early age at Johnson’s Temple, COGIC. She was faithful to her church, Progressive Holy Temple, COGIC under the leadership of Elder William W. Simmons, Sr. Dorothy worked for the Lord through the Usher Board, Pastor’s Anniversary committee, and Sunshine Band for many years.
She was employed with the Evansville Vanderburgh School Corporation for twenty-plus years. Sister Dorothy believed in the power of prayer, had an unshakeable faith in God and in the promise of God, that deliverance was possible from her final sick bed. But she knew that her home-going was equally possible in God’s sovereign plan and she calmly accepted God’s will.
She leaves to cherish her memory, her children; eight grandchildren, Kameron Milan, Lexis Lowery, C.J. Lowery, Morgan Tutt, Karae Fain, Ian Fain, Jazmyn Lowery, and Kai Fain. Mee Mee was preceded in death by her grandson, Kahari Lowery. Dorothy is also survived by her great-grandson, Jerel Holmes; five sisters, Anita Johnson (Richard) Lee Summit, MO, Mary Ann Fletcher of Evansville, Earnestine Graves of Lee Summit, MO, LuVon Richardson of Lee Summit, MO, and Barbara Johnson of Kansas City, MO; four brothers, Mose Goffner (Barbara) of Evansville, Ernest Johnson (Jan) of Henderson, KY, James Johnson (Cynthia), and Terry Johnson (Leda) both of Evansville; three step-brothers, Homer, Phillip, and Terrance Sholar all of Indianapolis; and a host of sister-laws, brother-in-laws, nieces and nephews.
Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 3, 2022 at Memorial Baptist Church, 645 Canal Street, officiated by Elder William W. Simmons; Burial will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery. Friends may visit from 10:00 a.m. until service time at the church.
