In 1950, Dorothy Graduated from Mackey High School. During high school, she worked part time at the Coffee Shop Restaurant in Princeton, Indiana. After graduation, she started working for Hansen Mfg. Company where she spent 5 years. After working for Hansen, Dorothy and her husband purchased the “Coffee Shop Restaurant”, which was located on the East side of the square in Princeton and they were owners for a number of years. After selling the Coffee Shop, they moved to Evansville and Dorothy worked in the cafeteria at Caze school. She then worked for the Evansville State Hospital until she retired. She enjoyed line dancing and going to Country music festivals with her husband.
Besides Dorothy’s parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Jerrel Cotton; brothers, Harold (Pauline) Morgan, Henry (Lois) Morgan, Raymond (Naedine) Morgan and Dale (Cora) Morgan; sisters, Elsie (Lester) Earls, Emma (Gilbert) Snow, and Katherine (Robert) Riddle.
She is survived by her son, Jerrel Cotton II (Donna); three grandchildren, Jessica Roush (Drew), Jonathan Cotton and Jennifer Cotton; wonderful sister, Elnora Linxwiler (Glenn) of Princeton; several nieces and nephews; and her great-granddaughter, Stella Roush.
Dorothy is a Christian although her body kept her from attending church. She was faithful to God. Anything Dorothy set her head out to do, she did and she did it full blast with all her effort. Dorothy was a wonderful cook and made all of the dishes and desserts that were served at the Coffee Shop that they owned. She deeply loved her son and grandchildren.
A Funeral Service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, December 20, 2024 at Alexander Funeral Home East Chapel, 2115 Lincoln Avenue, Evansville, IN 47714.
Friends and family may visit from 11:00 a.m. until service time on Friday at the funeral home.
Burial will be at Providence Cemetery (south of Francisco, IN), beside her beloved husband, Jerrel Cotton.
