Obituary of Dian Capshaw
Dian Capshaw, 86, of Evansville, IN passed away on March 12, 2022 at West River Health Campus. She was born in Oklahoma City, OK on January 24, 1936 to the late Leon and Tori Shipp. Dian was a true Southern Belle with the kindest manners, best cooking and funniest stories. She spent her career as a high school English teacher after completing a Masters Degree in English at the University of Oklahoma where she was a member of the Alpha Phi Sorority. Later, Dian was heavily involved with the Evansville Philharmonic Guild as a volunteer and donor. Dian loved to cook, travel and read. Her cooking was renowned among all who knew her and even those who did not as Tom loudly sang her praises. She was happily married for over 62 years to Tom (or Thomas if he was in trouble, although he had not the sense God gave a goose). She gave birth to her only son Charles William Capshaw April 10, 1960 and he was her proudest achievement. She was a devoted mother and grandmother, avidly coaching her son and later both of her grandchildren in competitive speech and drama. Dian used to tell her grandchildren when they were young “Every day that is spent with you is my favorite day, so today is my new favorite day.” – Winnie the Pooh. Her love will be fondly remembered by her grandchildren for the rest of their days. She was preceded in death by her father Leon Shipp, her mother Tori Shipp, her husband Tom D. Capshaw and her son Charles W. Capshaw. Dian is survived by her grandson Charles William Capshaw II (Danielle), granddaughter Hayley Harrison (Seth) and great grandsons Dean Harrison, Graham Harrison and Charles William Capshaw III. A funeral service will be held 2:00 p.m. Thursday, March 17, 2022 at Alexander West Chapel with burial to follow in St. Paul’s UCC- German Township. Friends may visit 1:00 p.m. until service time at the funeral home. Condolences may be offered at www.AlexanderWestChapel.com.
