He proudly served our country in the United States Navy as a Navigator on a B-24 patrol bomber during World War II. After serving he worked at Whirlpool as a Purchasing Agent for over 30 years. David was a member of the Oak Hill Bible Fellowship and was a Deacon, an Elder, and also a Sunday School Teacher. He was a faith filled dedicated man and enjoyed going to church, reading, solving crossword puzzles, traveling, and listening to gospel music.
David is survived by his wife of almost 70 years, Patricia (Butsch) Smith; daughter, Janet L. Burnett and her husband Darren; granddaughters, Valerie Terrell and her husband, Josh, and Crystal Smith; and great granddaughter, Zoey Smith.
He was preceded in death by his sons, Mark and Douglas Smith; and 8 siblings.
Our family would like to give special thanks to the staff at Deaconess Hospice and the nurses and aides at West River Health Campus for their care and compassion.
