IN THE CARE OF
Alexander Funeral Home - North Chapel
Bessie "June" (Grimwood) DeWeese, 93, of Evansville passed away Friday September 16, 2022. She was born June 26, 1929 to Herbert Franklin and Bessie Jane (Holley) Grimwood.
June and her siblings went to a one room school until 2nd grade, named Grimwood School. She then attended Scott School, and June graduated from Reitz High School in 1947. One great memory was being in color guard with the Marching One Hundred at Reitz. Her first job was working in IBM at Interstate Finance. June went on to transfer to Chrysler and worked there until they moved to Detroit.
June married “a great guy”, Delbert DeWeese, October 16, 1951, and was blessed with a daughter, Kathy June on October 16, 1953.
She worked 37 ½ years at Scott School as a kindergarten aid, and was a long time member of Blue Grass Church. June was a charter member of the United Methodist Women, taught Sunday School for over 50 years, and sang in the choir. Outside of church she taught Girl Scouts, square danced, rode in the Jolly 8 Square Dance Team on horseback, and spent time tutoring children in her home.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Delbert DeWeese; daughter, Kathy Hoefling; sisters, Ruby Newmaster and Nettie Schmidt; and brother, Oscar Grimwood.
June is survived by her granddaughter, Kristin Savoy (Christopher); sisters-in-law, Evelyn Huebner and Gayle Cobb; and many nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held at 12:00 p.m. Friday September 23, 2022 at Blue Grass Church. Friends and family may visit from 10:00 a.m. until service time.
