She was preceded in death by her parents, Emerson and Dorothy Lindy (Steinmetz) of Evansville, her sisters, Carol Gates (Lindy) and Linda Rickard (Lindy), her brothers, Ted Lindy, and Robert Lindy, her nephew, Larry Dennis Gates, and her dog, Peppar.
She was born in Evansville, IN on December 1, 1945. She was the third of seven children, two boys and five girls. She graduated from Bosse High School in 1963 and married Wayne Hettenbach on September 11, 1965. She had two daughters, Gail Ann (Ryan) Peterson and Jamie Ann (Nate) Barchett.
Ann retired from the Evansville Vanderburgh School Corporation as a cafeteria manager in 2011 after a career working in the school nutrition service for almost 30 years. After starting as a part time server, she moved up through the ranks to serve as a cashier, cook, and eventually becoming manager. She worked at several Evansville schools including Perry Heights, Reitz, Dexter, Thompkins, and Stringtown. She was an avid golfer, loved to watch stock and sprint car racing, loved laughing, and spending time with her family. Ann was always kind, keeping the peace with her sisters, and loved talking to friends and neighbors. Ann never met a stranger.
Ann always kept active with daily walks, her golf league, reading, gardening, and spending time outdoors. She loved looking after her granddaughter, Lyanna as a baby. Not long after Lyanna’s birth, Ann was blessed with three more granddaughters as she welcomed Jordyn, Cali, and Journey into the family. Ann’s kindness touched everyone around her and will be fondly remembered by many.
Ann is survived by her two daughters, Gail and Jamie, two sisters, Joyce Lindy and Sharon Studer (Lindy), granddaughters, Jordyn (15), Cali (14), Journey (10) Peterson and Lyanna (6) Barchett, and nieces and nephews. Even though they were divorced, Wayne and Ann remained in close contact until her death.
