Sara "Bear" Ann Craig

Sara Ann Craig “Bear” was born in Escondido, CA on March 25th, 1989 to Anita Kolb Garcia, daughter of Shirley Mojado and Chester Kolb Sr.. She was born the fourth child of five and the youngest girl. A beautiful and bright young girl who made people happy.

Bear grew up on the Rincon Indian reservation where she spent her childhood surrounded by her many cousins and friends. She went to school in Valley Center until she later transferred to the All Tribe Charter School. She excelled at that school so much that she was able to skip a grade. After Charter, Bear left to go join her sister in Salem, OR at the Chemawa Indian School, an all Native American boarding school. It was here that Bear was able to make life long friends from tribes all around the country.

After Chemawa, Bear returned back to Rincon to be with her family. She then started to attend Palomar College, a lifelong student, she loved learning new things. Bear was exceptional at everything she did. She was a natural artist in every sense of the word. While attending Palomar College, she flourished in every different type of artistry she could get her hands on. Not just as a scholar but at home she continued her creativity in so many different ways from sewing to makeup, baking to crafting, etc. There wasn’t really anything she couldn’t do and inspired so many along the way.

It was in 2016 that Bear met Rob Craig and in 2018 they were married. Although their time together was brief it was a marriage full of love and happiness. Bear’s greatest joy and passion in life was her family. There was nothing more important to her. She was surrounded by loved ones and was a friend as much as she was family. She forged deep bonds with her many cousins and was a wonderful aunt to her many nieces and nephews.She was a best friend to not only her siblings but also her mother.

Bear was a great ear to listen and gave thoughtful and honest advice because she only wanted the best for people. She was insightful and funny, the best at telling stories and could always put a smile on your face. Bear was often remarked to have a light about her that filled others. She gave off a warmth that can’t be duplicated. She was a home unto herself and made others feel that she was a safe harbor. If you had worries she was a shoulder to lean on and often advocated for better mental health.

She was an extremely strong and brave person all the way to the end, caring only that the ones she loved would be okay. She was a kind and loving soul that touched so many, in such a positive way. She will be missed dearly by her family and friends.
