The family moved to Dixon, Illinois where Jack completed his sophomore year, and then Jack’s mother moved him and his sister Sandra to Phoenix, Arizona due to health reasons. Jack completed high school in Phoenix, and then he answered the call to serve in the United States Navy. He was sent to San Diego Naval Training Center in 1953 and upon completion of boot camp, he attended the U.S. Fleet Sonar School in San Diego. After Sonar School, his assignment was to a destroyer escort ship, the U.S.S. Marsh, DE 966 from 1954 to 1958. He toured the South Pacific twice, including Japan and South Korea.
After his military service, Jack was hired by Lockheed Space and Missile Division in Van Nuys, Calif., where he worked on the Polaris Missile Program as a Quality Assurance Engineer. Due to layoffs, Jack then worked for RCA Aerospace Division where he met his wife, Marie Asaro. He worked on the computer system for the Saturn Booster Rocket and travelled to locations in Huntsville, Alabama and Cape Canaveral, Florida. RCA moved its plant to Arizona and Jack elected not to go there again and found a job with Bendix Corporation Avionics Division to work on Dipping Sonar Equipment used by helicopters to locate submarines.
Jack was involved with Cub Scouts, bowling, archery, painting, computer programs and enjoyed being with his family and friends.
Jack retired from Bendix in 1995 and with his wife, moved to Escondido, Calif., in 1998. He is survived by his loving wife of 45 years, Marie A. Scudder; sons, John (Kara), Joseph (Janessa Garcia); sister, Sandra M. Scudder; and grandson, Nathanael Scudder.
