Redford “Rex” Emerson, age 80, of Venice Florida passed away on July 23rd, 2024 at Sarasota Memorial Hospital. He is survived by his loving wife of over 52 years, Shirleen. Together they had four children: Richard (Susan) Knowles of Willis Michigan, Dawn (David) Similo of Lakewood Ranch Florida, Kevin (Elaine) Emerson of Adrian Michigan, and Kent (Julie) Emerson of Belleville Michigan. Six Grandchildren: Bryan (Ashley) Similo of Howell New Jersey, Justin (Danielle) of Waddell Arizona, Linsay (Matt) Wiggins of Whitmore Lake Michigan, Kristin (Jeff) Musa of Pinckney Michigan, Alec and Abby Emerson of Belleville Michigan. Eight Great Grandchildren: Ryan, Kelsey, Cooper, Cashton, Brayden, Brynley, Cambrie and Mila. He is loved and missed by surviving brother Kenneth (Kaye) Emerson and his sister Faye Emerson David. Many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents Paul and Eleanore Emerson and his brother William Emerson. Rex graduated from Willow Run High School, Ypsilanti Michigan. He retired after 20 years from Washenaw County Sheriff Department where he was a Deputy and proud member of the Motor Unit. He then worked for the Ypsilanti Public School System until he moved to Venice Florida in 2004. Rex was a life member of the Moose Lodge 782 and the Fraternal Order of Eagles. He enjoyed camping with his sisters-in-law Holly Cusatis and Teena (Ron) Sanger. Memorial Services will be held in Michigan and in Florida at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to individual’s charity of choice.
