Born on May 11, 1966 in New Milford, CT, Megan was the youngest, and treasured child of Patricia Anne (Boilard) McCullough and William Hartley McCullough. Megan grew up in Longmeadow, MA, where her kindness and intelligence shone from an early age. She earned a Master's degree in Public Policy from UMass Amherst and went on to build a flourishing career in administrative roles for private businesses and the towns of Palmer and Hanover, MA.
Megan was a sweetheart—pretty, funny, quirky, and an excellent cook. From an early age, she was known as a solid friend. She had a special talent for befriending kids with physical disabilities. Megan found comfort in helping people and formed strong bonds wherever she went.
In 2007, Megan married the love of her life, Reginald (Rex) Lambert Murphey, in a beautiful ceremony in Bermuda. They lived in Manhattan, NY, as well as Cohasset and Scituate, MA, and Englewood, FL. Together, they enjoyed traveling and sharing good times with friends at The Union Club in Manhattan, NY; The Wyandanch Club in Long Island, NY; and the Scituate Harbor Yacht Club in Scituate, MA. Megan and Rex also hosted many fine dinners at their home, fondly called 'Sunday Suppers,' where they shared meals and laughter with their friends and family. Throughout her life, Megan selflessly sacrificed her own time to support elderly and ill family members. She also treasured her stepson Blake Murphey, and her two beloved dogs, Moose and Maggie.
Megan is predeceased by her devoted husband, Reginald (Rex) Lambert Murphey. She is survived by her loving parents, Patricia Anne (Boilard) McCullough and William Hartley McCullough; her siblings, Frederick McCullough and his wife Cindy, Elizabeth (McCullough) Kerner and her late husband Peter, and Kevin McCullough and his wife Sherrie; her stepson Blake Murphey and his wife Heather; and her grandchildren, Alexander "Zan" Murphey, and Theodore Murphey. Megan is also lovingly remembered by her sister-in-law, Katharine “Kitty” (Murphey) Pell, and her brother-in-law Tony Pell, as well as her many uncles, aunts, cousins, nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her cousin, Carl Boilard.
Megan’s legacy of kindness, humor, and warmth will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
A Memorial Reception will be held at Scituate Harbor Yacht Club, 84 Jericho Rd, Scituate, MA 02066, on January 11th from 1-4 PM to celebrate the lives of Megan and Rex Murphey. A casual lunch will be served.
