Mary Beth Green

Mary Beth Green, of Elkridge, MD, passed away unexpectedly on September 17th 2023. Mary Beth was born on November 4, 1965 and was only 57 years old at the time of her passing. Her family is deeply saddened by her sudden death.

Mary Beth is survived by her husband Don, her children Adam and Amanda, and her sisters Carol, Pat, Terry, and Suzie. She is predeceased by her parents and her sister Kathleen. Mary Beth was born in Carnegie, Pennsylvania to Mathew J (Jim) and Mary D (Dolly) Dorman. Mary Beth and Don married in 1990. She attended Penn State University where she graduated with honors in Mathematics. Her first job out of college was with the Department of Defense where she ended up working her entire career.

Mary Beth was a brilliant person who took on many passions - one of which was running. She started at the age of 46 and in the beginning, she couldn’t run half a mile without stopping. As she strived to run farther, she eventually met others that she could run with who would challenge and support her. Before she knew it, Mary Beth got to the point where she could run a marathon (and further!). She accumulated many medals from all over the area and even finished first in her age group in some races. But, even with those accomplishments, the most rewarding part of running was meeting new friends and helping others to accomplish their goals.

Another of her passions was volunteering. She found so much pleasure and comfort in helping others. Through running, she learned of Back on My Feet – a national nonprofit. Mary Beth loved their unique vision and model: They use the power of fitness and community to motivate and support individuals every step of the way from homelessness to independence. She loved being a part of it and helping individuals by supporting them and helping them to increase their fitness (by walking with them and eventually running). Also, once a month she would cook for up to 100 people at The Baltimore Station and every Sunday would make 30 (or so) meals and take them into Baltimore and feed the homeless.

With all of her passions, Mary Beth’s greatest love was her family. She was never too busy to drive her children to as many activities as they could fill their calendars with, always with the goal of them discovering their passions. She also adjusted her work schedule so that every morning she could drive her kids to high school on the other side of the city and pick them up at the end of the day. If family would call, Mary Beth would be there at the drop of a hat. It didn’t matter what time it was or how far she needed to go. Mary Beth was always there.

Along with her passions and family, she always had a love for pets. She adored spending time with her two cats, Ziva and Domino, and pampering her children’s dogs. She would always make pup-sicles and “grandma treats,” but made sure that those added calories were burned off by the numerous runs she would take the dogs on. Spoiling them gave her so much joy.

Mary Beth was a beautiful person inside and out. She cared so deeply for the people around her. She was fearless and independent, yet so sensitive and compassionate. She made an impact on many lives. She will be forever missed.

Family and friends are invited to gather at Gary L. Kaufman Funeral Home at Meadowridge Memorial Park, Inc. 7250 Washington Blvd., Elkridge, MD 21075 (Exit 6 South off Route 100) on Friday, September 29, 2023 from 2:00 - 4:00pm and 6:00 - 8:00pm. Sharing of memories of Mary Beth will take place during the 6:00 - 8:00pm gathering. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at St. Augustine Church 5976 Old Washington Road, Elkridge, MD 21075 on Saturday, September 30, 2023 at 10:00am. Inurnment will be private. A repast will be held immediately following the mass at the Green's home.
