Gregory Thomas McGuckin, age 75, of Ellicott City, Maryland, passed away on Sunday, February 25, 2024, after a prolonged illness. Greg was born on June 24, 1948, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He was the eighth child (of fifteen) of Francis McGuckin and Florence McGuckin (nee Schriver). He moved to New Jersey as a young child and was raised in Ashland. A tenacious football player while attending Bishop Eustace Preparatory School, Greg continued his time on the field while a cadet at the United States Military Academy.
Following graduation from West Point, Greg was commissioned in the United States Army. He most notably served on the staff of Secretary of Defense, Casper Weinberger. After 24 years of service, he retired honorably as a Lieutenant Colonel. Leveraging experience gained during his last military assignment, Greg transitioned into the field of marketing, working as an executive for Century 21 and later Jackson Hewitt.
Following his second retirement, Greg enjoyed endlessly golfing, fanatically cheering on the Philadelphia Eagles, and enthusiastically debating all things history and politics. After the arrival of his grandchildren, Greg became a devoted GrandPop and loved nothing more than sharing time with his family.
Greg is survived by two sons and their wives, Kevin & Nicole McGuckin of Elkridge, Maryland, and Scott & Laura McGuckin along with their children, Paige, Grant, and Sloan McGuckin of Valencia, California. He is also survived by several brothers and sisters as well as numerous nephews and nieces.
A private, family service will be held at a future date. In honor of his memory, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society.
Arrangements were provided by Gary L. Kaufman Funeral Home at Meadowridge Memorial Park. Memories and condolences may be shared by visiting www.garylkaufmanfuneralhome.com
