George was born October 8, 1947 in Arbutus, MD and graduated from Lansdowne High School. On December 11, 1966, he married Norma (Lucy) Finkner. They raised two daughters, Melissa (Finkner) Casto and Christine (Finkner) Byrne.
George had a passion for hunting, establishing lifelong friends, and his family. A founding member of Elkridge Sportsmen Hunting Club, George served as president of the club for several years. George worked as an electrician before retiring. After George and Norma retired from Cape St Claire, MD they shared their time between their retirement home in Western Maryland, Naples, FL and Cape St Claire, MD. No matter if it was Maryland, Pennsylvania, or Florida, George is remembered for his huge smile, warm greetings, and a bond of friendship that lasted a lifetime. As a grandfather, he treasured his time with all five of his grandchildren and the title of “Poppy”.
George was preceded in death by his father, George Finkner Sr, his mother, Evelyn Mae Ruark, and his daughter, Melissa Casto. He is survived by his wife Norma, his daughter Christine and her husband Kevin Byrne, his two granddaughters (Kaitlin Byrne and Allison Byrne), three grandsons (Nicholas Casto, Corey Byrne, and Andrew Byrne) and son-in-law Frank Casto.
A Viewing will be held on Sunday, June 26, 2022 from 2 to 6PM at the Gary L. Kaufman Funeral Home at Meadowridge Memorial Park, 7250 Washington Blvd. Elkridge, MD 21075, where a Funeral Service will be held on Monday, June 27, 2022, 10:00AM. Burial Meadowridge Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers the family request donations to be made to Hospice of Chesapeake.
