Dave was born at home in Appleton, in the town of Somerset, New York; son of Lorenzo B. Bowersox and Roby (Hyde) Bowersox, Dave was baptized at West Somerset Baptist Church on January 11, 1948. He graduated from Barker Central School in June of 1957 and went on to complete a Bachelor of Science in General Business at the Rochester Institute of Technology in 1961.
Dave met Karen Schwendy in Watertown, NY while Dave was working in the Personnel Policy department for the local Social Security office. They married in September of 1968 and moved to the Baltimore area where Dave transferred to the Social Security Administration headquarters. He remained at Social Security until his retirement. After retirement he moved on to substitute teaching at the secondary level throughout Howard County from the early 2000's until 2019. Dave and Karen relocated to South Glens Falls, New York in 2021 to be closer to his oldest daughter Marie.
Service to the Body of Christ has always been Dave's highest calling, serving faithfully at First Baptist Church of Baltimore, MD, Bethany Church in Ellicott City, MD and First Baptist Church of Glens Falls, NY. Also a wonderful musician, Dave sang with the Alleluias, the Christian Choir of Howard county and other Christian singing groups in the area bringing hope, joy and the love of Christ to all who attended.
Those who remain to honor Dave's memory are spouse Karen Schwendy Bowersox; Daughter Marie Cox and her husband Ed Cox; Daughter Kimberly Bradley and her husband Heath Bradley; Grandchildren, Ethan, Megan and Matthew; Sister Elaine Fletcher and her husband Charles and Brother Paul Bowersox and his wife Joan Bowersox.
Visitation will be held Friday, December 27, 2024 from 11am to 1pm directly followed by the funeral service at 1pm at Gary L. Kaufman Funeral Home at Meadowridge Memorial Park, 7250 Washington Blvd. Elkridge, MD 21075 (Exit 6 South Off Route 100). Interment following at Meadowridge Memorial Park.
Memorial donations in David's name can be directed to the Fort Hudson Foundation, 319 Broadway, Fort Edward, NY 12828. Fort Hudson provides excellent support to many seniors and their caregivers, including Dave and Karen, in the greater Glens Falls area of Upstate New York.
