On Saturday, January 15, 2022 Carmen L. Keister (Martinez) of College Park, MD passed away peacefully surrounded by her family. Beloved wife of the late James V. Keister and the late Edward N. Lurty. Loving mother to Karen L. Pepicelli, David B. Keister and the late Janice M. Beitzell and the late Stephan Michael Lurty; devoted grandmother to Daniel Baugher, Natalia and Anthony Pepicelli, Samantha Beitzell, Anthony Cunningham, Nicholas Lurty, and Luciano Del Villar. Cherished sister to her brother Richard Martinez, Nicholas Martinez and her late sister Guadalupe “Lupe” Martinez; and many nieces and great-grandchildren.
Carmen was a member of the Potomac Chrysanthemum Society for over 53 years, through which she made lifelong friends and shared her passion for gardening and chrysanthemums with others. She was also an active member for the Beltsville Young at Heart and the Red Hat Society. After her retirement from the University of Maryland, she traveled the world on over 35 cruises. She was an active parishioner at Holy Redeemer Church. Carmen will forever be remembered for her genuine smile and zest for life.
Family and friends are invited to gather at the GARY L. KAUFMAN FUNERAL HOME at Meadowridge Memorial Park, Inc., 7250 Washington Blvd., Elkridge, MD 21075 (Exit 6 off Route 100 and Route 1) on Friday, January 28, 2022 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, January 29, 2022 at 11 a.m. HOLY REDEEMER CATHOLIC CHURCH, 4902 Berwyn Road, College Park, MD 20740. Internment to follow in Meadowridge Memorial Park.
