Nancy Lee and Jackie......I just this evening found the death notice of your brother, Bernie.  My mother was your Aunt Maude from Ridgway, PA and we shared the same grandmother, "Nana" as she was called by the kids.  My family lived and cared for Nana and grandpa until her death and I remember you three visiting us once.  After that, we lost complete touch.  Nancy, your birthday is almost the same as mine, either Aug. 24th or 25th, 1941.  I'm Sandra Eberl Metzger.  Would you please get in touch with me? Mr Stangle was a great man. If one ever witnessed Mr Stangle take on a task or have visited the Stangle’s home, it is very obvious that things were done meticulously,  beautifully and professionally. By definition, you would call Mr. Stangle a profectionist. I don’t believe he saw himself that way. I believe he mastered each task and created a wonderful environment as an expression of his love of life, love of his family and love of God. Rest In Peace Mr Stangle. David and I send our condolences and love to Mrs Stangle, Matt, Christine, Maddie, Rob & Gretchen. ❤️

I worked with Bernie for many years in Cockeysville, Md.  He was a wonderful coworker and I always enjoyed his company.  May he rest in peace.  He will always be remembered and missed

I knew Bernie from Western Electric. He was a fun-loving gentle man, and just nice to be around. Wishing you fond memories now and in the future.

Just received word of Bernie's passing. He was  a co-worker for both of us in years past.  Our sincere sympathies to his family.  Bernie was a great guy and we are certain he will be dearly missed by all. 

I’m so sorry for your loss. I met Bernie in the hospital early March.  We both agreed on politics and religion, which of course rubbed a few the wrong way. He lightened a rough time: hopefully I did as well.  Peace to you Bernie.

I remember Bernie from Loch Raven Village -playing basketball in the alley behind our homes and later football at the park.  He always played at 100%   -
 I also remember his kit car - a red T-bird.
His son .  Matt and my son were good friends as well - they hung out here a lot.

We have known and worshipped in church with the Stangles a long time.  Bernie always had a smile and a warm welcome. He showed his happiness to be  in God’s house with his church family, and of course his bride, Lorrie!  We miss you Bernie, but you have God’s blessed assurance that the best is yet to come!

Bernie, thank you for being the man that taught Matt to be the most wonderful husband, father, and provider.  Lorrie, thank you for raising sons who know how to love and respect the women in their lives.  The foundation Lorrie and Bernie set for their children is the foundation for our loving marriages and I will be forever grateful.  Your focus was always on how your family and friends were doing and how you could help us if we ever needed anything.  I will never forget every time I saw you your arms were outstretched for a hug and you had a smile on your face.   Maddie adored you and she knows her Poppy is in heaven watching over our family. Your legacy will live on in all of us.  With love, gratitude, and respect, Christine.

Scott and I had the joy of spending many holidays with the Stangles, such as Christmas,  Easter,  and birthdays.  Bernie was such a joy to talk to,  and when we picture him it's always accompanied by a big smile, a hug, and kind words.  Scott and I will truly miss you Bernie, and we send all of our love to Lorrie, Matt, Rob, Gretchen, Chris, and Maddie.

I am so sorry to hear about Mr. Bernie's passing.  It's never easy and always to soon.  I think about the conversations we had during many  of the cookouts in Matt's back yard or Joe's kitchen. They often times lead to cars and fixing them and old technology vs new engines.  Two things that really hit home was he always knew something about it in a teaching type moment.  Much more than I ever will know.    And how much of a mans man he was when it came to cars and life.  I will always appreciate those conversations.  More than cars, he loved his family deeply, it always came out in our conversations.  The Phelps' will keep the Stangle family in our prayers and thoughts.

Bernie came to be our dear friend.  We shared some of the best and most cherished moments of our lives with he and Lorrie; the marriage of our daughter, Christine, to his son Matt; the birth of our granddaughter Maddie and the joy that being a grandfather brings; and getting to know his family and circle of friends.

When our daughter met Bernie and Lorrie for the first time, we were apprehensive.  But we knew things were going to work out just fine when Christine came home and mentioned that a praise to Jesus was written on Bernie's shirt.

We will miss his smile, his hugs, his sense of humor, his love of family, and his love of his God.  We will miss our friend.

I cannot tell you how much I loved and respected Mr. Bernie. He was a kind, generous and patient man.  I had the distinct honor of growing up with the Stangles and I consider them family. Ms Lori, Rob and Matt are my family and I hold them, and their families, all dear in my heart. 
Mr. Bernie could fix anything. ...At least that’s how I remember him. I can still see his tools set up on the tool bench in the back of the basement on Glen Gary rd.  I can still smell the fresh metal or wood shaving from the latest project. Matt and I would spend hours back there taking stuff apart and “fixing” things and creating things with Bernie’s tools. Now that I’m older and have tools of my own, I’m sure we drove him crazy touching his things but he never seemed to get upset with us. In fact he would encourage and assuage our curiosity and interests.  Whether it was toys or bikes or skateboards or home made ping pong paddles, he made sure we were safe and doing it correctly. Using the tools the way they were designed to be used. ...and hopefully put back in their place when we finished. 
He was always up with technology as well. I believe he worked for Westinghouse. I remember the Stangles were the first ones in the neighborhood to have a VCR or was it a Betamax?  First with cable, Atari, first to have a home computer. He was very versed with the internet and I received many emails from him over the years, Mostly  from Handyman articles, discounts on auto repairs or consumer report type emails. Some were personal, and I will treasure those and many more we’re discussing his conservative Christian ideals. Bernie was an good and faithful servant of Christ. He raised his family knowing Christ and for this reason (and many more)  I will always admire and try to emulate him.  I’m not sure if things need fixing in Heaven but if they did, God has the right man for the job now!  I Love you guys and I can’t wait to see you all and celebrate his life! God bless!

Mr. Stangle was/is a great man. Always smiling whenever you saw him. Our prayers goto the Stangle family. The pain of his passing will never go away but in time the tears that come  when you have memories of him will change to smiles and that is Mr. Stangle telling you he is here for you.  He is now your angel in the heavens he will always look after all of you. God bless Mrs. Stangle and the whole Stangle family.  

Mr. Stangle was one of those Dad’s in my life that provided such a shining an example of what it means to be a father.  He was always so generous with his time when we needed advice on how to fix something or what his opinion was  when were contemplating a purchase. I remember he skipped his lunch break to come over to the Honda dealership to test drive a car with me and help me out with the sales guy. It meant so much to me . My Dad was unable to be there and Mr. Stangle stepped  in to help.

He showed all of Matt’s friends how a man treats his wife, provides for his family, and does it all with a great sense of humor and gentleness.

The Ames Family will keep you all in our thoughts and prayers. We know Mr. Stangle is at home with the Lord, smiling down on you all.

       Tears fill my eyes as I sit to write about my Dad, the man I respected and loved more than anyone. Of all the wonderful things this man was, he was unsurpassed at being a Father and Husband. He did all of this without the learning from his father (who died when he was eight). He figured it out on his own, a testament to his character in itself. Dad was never bitter about not knowing his father, his infectious smile and unending sense of humor throughout his life were the evidence.	
       Dad was a giver, he tithed to his church without exception and he kept money specifically in his car to give the homeless he would encounter on the road. He was the person we could always call,  with your back against the wall, a true problem-solver, he could literally fix anything, for friends, neighbors and strangers. 
         I found a picture of him at twenty years old, standing next to his new 1964 Pontiac GTO, his pride and joy. He loved that car, it defined him and he would talk about that “Goat” in mythical proportions. If you know the car, it embodied understated strength, humble on the outside but a ton of power and the ability to inspire beneath, just like my Dad.
       Dad loved Mom, more than that GTO for sure, he provided for her in the tradition of his generation so that my Mom could do what she did so well, raise her sons. We owe her as much as we owe him, because we are who we are, as a result of their sacrifice, dedication and unconditional love and support.
        My Dad loved Jesus Christ. This is why what began with tears of sorrow now end in tears of Joy. He was a man of unbending faith. We know that while he is no longer here on the ground with us, he’s just “upstairs” with that infectious smile, free from pain and struggle, in the company of our Lord and Savior. And like living at our childhood home, we can “yell up through the ceiling” anytime we need to talk to him, to solve a problem or to simply say thanks for being truly wonderful Father.


Bernie was a very close friend. He loved playing cards. He played pinochle every Thursday for years. Bernie would always find  " 20 in the count" even with only 10 cards! Loved the guy. He is now experiencing the PEACE OF CHRIST NOW. Best to Lori.

We were a military family for 20 years, 1968-1988.  One duty station in particular was in northern Germany, a very remote location where there was no English speaking TV or radio.  We were there from 1980-1983. Bernie would record VCR tapes of  American shows, commercials, the super bowl, cartoons...anything that was in English and send them to us.  This may seem like a small gesture, but he helped to improve the morale of these 20 homesick military families.  This is one example of why people referred to Bernie as a "nice guy".  Rest in Peace and may God hold you in the palm of his hand.  Chris and Dave Linthicum

Bernie was a very sweet man, most Sundays I would sit behind he and Lorrie at Bethany church, he always greeted me with a warm smile and handshake. He will be missed. RIP Bernie.

Bernie was a special man. He had a wonderful sense of humor. He loved to play volleyball! Even when his knees hurt. Bernie is someone we will never forget. 

Bernie was a special man—caring, kind, always ready to lend a helping hand. He loved the Lord and lived his life as a testament of his faith. When God called him home I feel sure Bernie heard these words—“Well done my good and faithful servant, enter into the joy of your lord “
