He was a devoted husband to his wife, Barbara Woodring Bunch, of 47 years and a loving father to his daughters, Megan Barnes and April (Cory) Pence. He was adored by his seven grandchildren, Ann-Marie, Sara-Kate, Mia-Claire, Coleman, Madeline, Hudson and Owen. He is also survived by his sister, Teresa Bunch Bratcher, and several nieces and nephews who loved him dearly.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Cecil and Pattie Bunch.
Royce was a 1968 graduate of Elizabethtown High School and a 1972 graduate of Western Kentucky University. He was a man of faith, a genuine friend, and a respected educator. As a lifelong member of Severns Valley Baptist Church, he served and taught Sunday School in the Youth Ministry for many years. Royce also dedicated 32 years to teaching in both the Hardin County and Elizabethtown Independent School Systems. He thoroughly enjoyed spending quality time with family, working in his yard, fishing, golfing, and cheering for the Kentucky Wildcats. Royce’s personality and smile brought warmth and joy to everyone he encountered with his kindheartedness, generosity, and sense of humor.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests expressions of sympathy be made in memory of Royce to a youth program in your church, school, or community as he truly had a servant’s heart who positively impacted future generations.
Visitation will be at Severns Valley Baptist Church in Elizabethtown, Kentucky on Sunday, October 27, from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. with a funeral service to follow at 4:00 p.m., officiated by Pastor Emory Riley.
