Marion Gayle Evans, 77, of Cecilia, passed away Sunday, Oct. 20, 2024. She was born in Howevalley, Kentucky to Ray and Alta (Arvadis) Barnes. She was a cherished member of Freedom’s Way Church. Gayle was a born-again Christian. She was a Sunday School teacher and played piano for her church for many years. She graduated from West Hardin High School in 1964. Gayle was a talented musician and singer who played both the piano and guitar. She was a natural talent when it came to her musicianship. She sang regularly on the radio from the tender age of 16. Gayle sang tenor in her family’s gospel group known as The Barnes Family for 31 years.
She retired from the Department of Defense. She took great pride in processing Awards and Decorations for soldiers while she worked at Fort Knox, Kentucky, especially those returning from Vietnam. After retirement from civil service, she owned and operated a wedding planning business called MARROX Corporation.
For many years she volunteered to assist with voting for Hardin County along with her mother Alta (Arvadis) Barnes. She was a notary public and offered her services to anyone who needed assistance. She was awarded the Kentucky Colonel for her many years of service to her community through singing, volunteering and outreach to her community.
She was an expert marksman and horseback rider, self-taught musician, singer and craftswoman.
She enjoyed many years living with her mother and father caring for them until the end of their lives. Above all, Gayle would want to be remembered as a born-again Christian. John 3:16.
She was preceded in death by her paternal grandparents, James (Leahman) and Lou Zilla Barnes, her maternal grandparents, Mack and Beatrice Goodman, her parents, Ray and Alta (Arvadis) Barnes, her sister, Brinda Barnes, and her granddaughter Leigh Westmoreland.
She is survived by her daughter, Roxanne Westmoreland, her brother and sister-in-law Terry and Kathy Barnes, and her nephews, Jared and Brett Barnes (Kimberly).
Visitation is at Brown Funeral Home in Elizabethtown from 5-8:00 p.m on Oct 24. A viewing will be at 10:00 a.m. followed by the funeral at 11:00 a.m. Friday, Oct. 25 at Freedom’s Way Church in Cecilia with Bro. William Curle officiating. Burial follows at Howevalley Cemetery.
