She was born August 19th, 1932 in El Paso County, a daughter of the late Jose Varela and Angela Molina.
Yolanda was a caring mother, sister, grandmother, and friend. She loved dancing, gardening, piña coladas, and spending time with her children and grandchildren. During her later years she enjoyed tending to her roses in her garden, and teaching her grandchildren her various famous recipes. Grandma Yolie was a strong, determined and fiercely independent woman. We will miss her every day.
She is preceded in death by her parents, and brothers Jose Galaviz, Anastasio Galaviz, Ruben Galaviz, and Alfredo Molina.
Yolanda is survived by her four children, Robert Varela, Ricardo Varela Gonzalez (Diana), Teresa Esparza (Jerry) and Peter Gonzalez; Grandchildren: Isaac Barrera, Emerald Stanton, Aiden Varela; Richard Gonzalez, Jeanette Gonzalez, Yazmin Mooney; Justine Esparza, Jacqueline Esparza, Jamie Johnson; Great Grandchildren: Justina Barrera, Amber Barrera, Mila Esparza, and Oliver Mooney. Siblings: Josefina Palomino, and Martin Galaviz. She also leaves many other family members and friends who will sadly miss her.
A visitation for Yolanda will be held Wednesday, July 6, 2022 from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM, with a rosary beginning at 7:00 PM at Hillcrest Funeral Home, 1060 N. Carolina. Funeral Mass to be held at 10:00 AM at St. Raphael Parish, 2301 Zanzibar Rd, burial will be held at Fort Bliss National Cemetery following funeral mass.
Yolanda’s family will serve as pallbearers.
Yolanda will be laid to rest in Fort Bliss National Cemetery, 5200 Fred Wilson Ave, Fort Bliss, Texas 79906.
