The Reverend William Max Buck passed to be with his Lord Savior, Jesus Christ on August 9, 2014. He was born on June 30, 1929 in Prairie City Iowa to Phyllis White and Rev. Charles M. Buck.
Bill is survived by his wife of 63 years, Elsie; sons, Stephen Max (Pamela), James Ramsey (Paula) of Ft. Worth, and the father of Andrew Glenn (deceased). Sisters Juanita Dodgen & Laurel Wilson.
He was the proud grandfather of Jeanell Buck, Thomas Buck, Charles Buck, Ryan Buck, Amanda Buck, Alexandra Buck, and Lauren Buck. He was also the great-grandfather of Elena Butterfield, Timothy Butterfield, Stephen Buck II, Matthew Buck, Zaylie Buck, and William Buck.
At ten years of age, Bill gave his heart to Jesus Christ, and on June 29, 1951, Bill married his high school sweetheart, Elsie Smith.
In 1952, Bill was the starting defensive tackle on the Texas Christian University Southwestern Conference Championship team which played in the Cotton Bowl.
From 1953-1957, Bill received a Bachelor of Arts Degree from Texas Christian University and a Bachelor of Divinity Degree from Brite Divinity School. He was ordained on May 12, 1957 and served as pastor to his first church, The Central Christian Church, in Lampasas, Texas. For fourteen years, he was the pastor for the Christian Churches Disciples of Christ. In March of 1971 while at Austin Park Christian Church, Pastor Buck and many members of his congregation received the baptism in the Holy Spirit. Since then, he has been the pastor of The Church at El Paso.
Through the years, Rev. Buck held many denominational and interdenominational offices which included president of the El Paso Ministerial Association and president of the El Paso Council of Churches. He was active in the Cub Scouts, The American Cancer Society, The Council on Alcoholism, El Paso Christian Homes, Rescue Mission, and the National Council of Churches. He was also a Sky Pilot for the downtown Lions Club.
Visitation will be Wednesday, August 13, 2014 from 5:00 to 9:00 PM at Funeraria Del Angel Martin East. Funeral Service Thursday, August 14, 2014 at 11:00 AM at Life Gate Church, 10555 Edgemere Blvd. Interment will follow at Evergreen East Cemetery.
