Vaughn E. Rodgers (Vaun) passed away on Aug. 24, 2015 after a brief illness. He was born on Dec. 23, 1919 to Leland G. Rodgers and Ida Schlotter Rodgers in Detroit, MI. Vaun worked for Fisher Body in Detroit and married the love of his life, Virginia Bailey in 1939. During WWII, he served in the Navy as an engine room mechanic on an LST. After the war, in 1949 the family moved to El Paso, where he and his father, Leland, were partners in a ranch. Later they built and operated the Crystal Pool in NE El Paso. He worked for the City of El Paso as a superintendent of the municipal shops, he also worked for Watkins Motor Co. and Mitchell’s Brewery. Vaun’s most favorite hobby and occupation were his antique cars. He was one of the founders of the El Paso Horseless Carriage Club more than 50 years ago, a member of the Model T club, El Maida Shrine and Jesters. He is survived by Virginia his wife of 76 years, his brother, Leland Rodgers and wife Madelyn of Illinois. Other survivors are his son Robert Rodgers (spouse Bonnie), of Rio Rancho, NM, daughter Jan McCleskey (spouse Sandy) of Richmond, TX, daughter Pam Mason (spouse Bill) of Denver, CO. He is also survived by 5 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren. He was a amazing man, and will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Our beloved Mother, Virginia Rodgers passed away on December 12, 2015. She was 98 and had been living at Sunridge at Desert Springs for about 2 and a half years, being treated for Alzheimer’s. She fought it bravely. She was preceded in death in late August this year by her husband of 76 years, “Buddy” Vaun Rodgers. They are missed very much by their three children, Robert Rodgers, Jan McCleskey, Pam Mason, and their spouses Bonnie, Sandy, and Bill. They also have five grandchildren and six great grandchildren. A joint memorial service celebrating both of their lives will be held at 2:00 PM, January 16, 2016 at St. Marks United Methodist Church 5005 Love Rd., El Paso, TX
Vaun and Virginia were charter members of the Horseless Carriage Club of El Paso and built and ran Crystal Pool on the North East side of El Paso.
