Robert Joseph Poissant, age 75, of El Paso, TX., passed away on Friday, June 11, 2021. He was born in the Flatbush neighborhood of Brooklyn, N.Y., and moved to Levittown, N.Y., when he was 5 years old. Robert started working at the age of 10 with his own paper route and then later as a golf caddy and grocery store stocker. He graduated from Island Trees High School, in 1964. He worked as a mail distributor for Trans World Airlines at John F. Kennedy International Airport, salesman for Peerless Radio Corporation, and attended New York University. Robert served in the United States Army from 1966 to 1969, and was stationed at Ft. Bliss, TX. He served in the U.S. Army Air Defense System (USAADS) as a 24F Pulse Acquisition Radar and Battery Control Central Maintenance Technician for the HAWK Missile System. While stationed at Ft. Bliss, Robert met Elvia Fourzan, and they married on June 7, 1969. He worked as an equipment installer for Western Electric Company, while attending El Paso Community College, then earning his BBA in Accounting from UTEP. After having their children, they moved to Houston where Robert worked as an internal auditor for Dart Industries, Inc., as a corporate representative for ICI America (Corpus Christi, TX.), and the Senior Cost Accountant and Plant Controller for El Paso Polyolefins Company. While in Houston, he attended the University of Houston, Clear Lake, and earned his Doctorate of Jurisprudence from South Texas College of Law, in 1983. After moving back to El Paso, he worked as the Corporate General Accounting and Tax Director for Billy the Kid Inc., and as General Counsel and the Senior Financial Director for Tonka Toys/Hasbro before opening his own law practice. His law experience in General Practice of Law included Child Welfare, Business Law, Family Law, Criminal Law, Contract Law, and Personal Injury Law, and as a mediator for various courts in El Paso County. He also served as a long-time board member, a Chairman of the Supervisory/Audit Committee, a Secretary of the Board of Directors, and as the Chairman of the Board Directors for One Source Federal Credit Union. Robert served the El Paso Community for 38 years as an accountant, an attorney and as a child advocate for much of his career. He was a very well-respected, hardworking individual, who was selfless and kind. He is known for his love of cars, especially his Corvettes. He enjoyed building anything and everything, and as his granddaughter once said, “Bob can fix it!” He rescued most of his pets, and gave them a loving home. His long friendships are a testament to his character and loyalty. He loved his family above all, and was the rock that gave his family strength. His absence will be felt by many. Robert was proceeded in death by his father Francis Albert Poissant and his mother Lucille Poissant. Robert is survived by his wife Elvia of 52 years, son Andre Poissant (Lilia), daughter April Poissant (Aaron Verinder), grandson ATAN Andrew Poissant (United States Navy), granddaughter Nicole Poissant, brother Bruce Poissant (Jeanne), sister Gail Mannina, goddaughter Kate Poissant, goddaughter Gabriela Fourzan, godson Gerardo “Jerry” Fernandez, 8 nieces, 5 nephews, 8 grandnieces, and 4 grandnephews.
