Bob was in the grocery business in Enid and later worked for Boeing in Wichita, Kansas. When Bob moved to El Paso he worked for S & H Green Stamps and Procter & Gamble. His first move to the car business was with Mr. Lowenfield at Carrera. Bob remained in the car business until his retirement.
Bob was a Master Mason in Fraternity No. 1111. In 2021 he received his 50 year pin. This was an achievement that he worked diligently to accomplish.
Local dirt track racing was his passion. He was a crew chief, car owner and later an employee at El Paso Speedway Park. Bob and his yellow jeep were well known and well respected at the track. When he was around you knew there would be smiles and laughter, but his first priority was always driver safety. Bob travel the United States racing sprint cars with his son, Joe as the driver and later worked for the World of Outlaws with his daughter Vicki. Stories of his days on the road with Joe were well known and repeated many times.
Bob also traveled the United States on his Harley. He rode the border of the US in nineteen days to receive a HOG award. He rode his bike to Littlerock, Arkansas to attend the Short Track Nationals at his friend, Joe Clays, 1 30 Speedway for many years and two years ago he and Donna traveled to Mount Rushmore, Sturgis and the Bad Lands. Bob was never much for wasting time and didn't believe in leaving a bucket list.
He is survived by his wife Donna, brother Mike McCarthy of Fort Worth, Texas. Children Joe McCarthy, Robin McCarthy and Vicki McCarthy and his step son, Tod Grice. Bob was a proud grandparent to four grandchildren. Joey McCarthy and his wife Carly, and three great-grandsons. Maxwell, Lukas and Daxton McCarthy all of Charlotte, North Carolina. Dana McCarthy of Denver, Colorado. Meaghan McCarthy of Albuquerque, New Mexico. Nathaniel Grice of San Antonio, Texas.
We will have a remembrance of life on February 17, 2022, from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM at Martin Funeral Home at 1460 George Dieter. Service will be at 6:00 PM. Please feel free to wear your favorite race shirt.
